This piece was inspired by a wonderful New Year's Day walk through Grantchester Meadows in Cambridge, England. The beautiful countryside along the River Cam was an especially peaceful sight to behold on a day that is so often marked with parties and celebrations at home--it was a refreshing change of pace! The piece is mostly in the Dorian mode, which to me is evocative of England in general--grey, nostalgic, but with an underlying beauty that is impossible to miss.
